Meeting with Trump Amid Ongoing Hostage Crisis
The father of murdered American hostage Omer Neutra spoke with President Trump early Monday about the distress faced by families still waiting for their loved ones’ remains.
Ronen Neutra shared with the Post that he remains uncertain about when his 21-year-old son’s body will be returned.
He, along with other family members, met with Trump just before he gave a well-received speech in Israel’s parliament. There was a mix of joy and frustration as they awaited news on their loved ones.
Neutra expressed gratitude towards the president for his efforts and for ending the war, describing the return of living hostages as “amazing.” However, he reminded Trump that the situation isn’t resolved until all 28 deceased hostages are accounted for, noting that only four are anticipated to be returned that day.
“It’s a constant worry for families like ours,” he mentioned, referring to the other grieving families present during the parliamentary address. “We’re listening to these powerful speeches, but we still don’t know when we can embrace our son again.”
He voiced his anguish, questioning whether they would receive news today, in a week, or maybe never. “It’s such a tough situation,” he added. “And it continues; 28 families are enduring this pain. We can only hope there won’t be celebrations until every hostage is back home.”
Families of the deceased expressed their shock and disappointment upon learning that of the 28 hostages, only four bodies would be returned that day. The Hostage and Missing Families Forum criticized this as a breach of agreement by Hamas.
“We expect prompt action from the Israeli government and mediators to rectify this situation,” they stated, affirming their commitment to advocating for all hostages.
The father of another Israeli-American hostage, Itai Chen, also shared his agony during the meeting, unsure of his son’s fate.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Ruby Chen was informed that her 19-year-old son was killed during the attack on October 7, but they lacked definitive evidence, leaving her hopeful for a miracle.
“President Trump reiterated his support for the remaining 28 hostages, including two Americans,” Ruby Chen recounted about her interaction with the president. “My family’s still waiting and anxious for updates on when our son will be released.”
