Massachusetts Boarding School Employee Dies After Altercation
An employee of a Massachusetts boarding school passed away Thursday following an incident in which she was reportedly kicked in the chest by a student. The woman, identified as Amy Morrell, 53, was involved in restraining a teenage girl at Meadowridge Academy on Wednesday night when the unfortunate event occurred.
Following the incident, Morrell collapsed, prompting staff to call 911 and perform CPR. She was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead the next day. The coroner’s office has yet to determine the cause and manner of death.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office stated that the altercation took place around 6:55 p.m. after the student allegedly attempted to leave the dormitory without permission. The student has since been charged with assault and battery resulting in serious injury and faced arraignment in juvenile court Thursday.
Andrew Felouch, a friend of Morrell’s family, expressed his sorrow over her death, referring to it as a “horrible accident.” He noted how tragic it is when a fight escalates in such a devastating manner, particularly for a child involved.
Meadowridge Academy describes itself as a “therapeutic boarding school” catering to adolescents and young adults grappling with mental health challenges, behavioral issues, and trauma histories. The institution serves individuals aged 12 to 21.
A spokesperson for the academy expressed deep sadness over Morrell’s passing, offering support resources for students and staff as they cope with this tragic loss. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is ongoing.
