Russia launches drone and missile attacks on Ukraine following delay of Trump-Putin meeting

Russia targets Ukraine with drones, missiles after Trump, Putin meeting delay

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported that the Russian military launched a significant drone and missile attack on Ukraine late Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of six individuals.

Zelenskiy mentioned that around 10 regions were hit, with the attacks focusing on energy infrastructure and residential areas. Tragically, among those who perished, two were children.

“This night shows that Russia isn’t feeling enough pressure to end the war,” he remarked.

In Kyiv’s Brovary district, Russian drones set ablaze a house, claiming the lives of a woman and her two young daughters, aged 12 and six months. Regional head Mykola Kalashnik noted that another man succumbed to shrapnel injuries in the same area.

Ukrainian officials have reported that at least 29 people were injured in the capital, including five children.

Meanwhile, in Kharkiv, a drone crashed into a kindergarten, killing one adult and injuring seven others, as stated by Zelenskiy. Fortunately, all children were evacuated, although he mentioned that many were showing signs of acute stress.

The Ukrainian Air Force revealed that a total of 405 drones and 28 missiles were deployed in this attack, although their defense forces managed to intercept 333 drones and 16 missiles.

On Tuesday, Russian troops targeted a chemical factory in Bryansk, with Ukraine responding by striking machine factories and oil refineries in Saransk and Dagestan.

Russia’s Defense Ministry also reported that its air defense systems took down 33 Ukrainian drones overnight, leading to temporary grounding of eight airports following the assault.

This attack comes as Ukraine aims to bolster regional and international support amid the ongoing conflict with Russia, which began with the invasion in February 2022.

On Wednesday, Zelenskiy met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gare Store in Oslo, where he secured a $150 million support package for Ukrainian gas purchases this winter. He is also scheduled to meet Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson later in Stockholm.

In another development, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov engaged in what was described as “productive talks,” although it was confirmed that there are currently “no plans” for Trump and Putin to meet soon.

This contrasts with last Thursday’s phone conversation, during which Putin indicated an intention to meet Trump in Budapest in the near future.

Lastly, President Trump and President Zelenskiy met at the White House, where Trump seemed hesitant to commit to sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, despite military experts suggesting that such missiles would enhance Ukraine’s capability to target Russian military assets.
