Family Seeks Answers After Fatal Crash in Virginia

A Virginia family is looking for answers following a tragic incident on October 5, where one son lost his life and another was hospitalized in intensive care after a car accident they believe involved a foreign national.

Levi Gonderman discussed the crash in a post on X, on behalf of the Jackson family. According to him, the Jacksons’ sons—Zane, 21, Toby, 16, and Boaz, 14—were returning home from a Ninja Warrior competition in Northern Virginia when the accident occurred. Zane was driving southbound on Interstate 95 when the first crash happened, as detailed in the family’s statement.

A witness, who chose to remain anonymous, reported that he saw the other driver pass the Jackson family vehicle at excessive speed, subsequently losing control without applying brakes. The airbags in the Jackson’s car deployed, and it became immobilized, while the other driver stopped several hundred meters away.

Initially, the Jackson brothers appeared to be fine apart from some minor burns. They promptly activated their hazard lights and called 911, managing to get in touch with dispatchers.

The family suspects that a semi-truck collided with their car more than a minute after the first crash. Tragically, Zane died shortly thereafter. Boaz fell unconscious due to a traumatic brain injury, while Toby, who witnessed everything, suffered a minor back fracture. He became particularly concerned when he saw Zane bleeding and focused on keeping Boaz alive.

Toby attempted to engage the truck driver in calling for help. He noted that the driver had limited English-speaking skills and sought assistance from a 911 dispatcher directly.

The truck driver, who is reportedly from Minneapolis, informed the police that his dashcam had been inoperative for over a month. The family expressed significant disappointment regarding the Virginia State Police’s handling of the situation.

After a few hours at the hospital, the police officer overseeing the scene suggested Zane may have caused the accident and allowed the other drivers to leave prematurely, indicating that Toby was at fault instead of the other driver.

The Virginia State Police stated that the crash is currently under investigation. Initial reports indicated that Zane might have struck another vehicle before the truck hit him and his brothers.

Feeling angered, the Jackson family alleged that the police failed to adequately investigate and did not reach out to any potential witnesses. They insisted that the vehicle should have been impounded for an appropriate inquiry, expressing frustration over how they were made to feel that Zane was responsible for the crash.

In the midst of mourning Zane’s untimely passing, the family is spending their time in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, praying for a miracle for Boaz, whose future remains uncertain due to severe brain damage.

The Jackson family has received substantial support, raising over $50,000 through GoFundMe for Zane’s funeral. Virginia State Police have not yet offered a statement addressing the incident or the driver’s immigration status.
