A detective from New York City and devoted mother of three has tragically passed away a week after having a butt lift and liposuction in Colombia, according to various reports. Her husband has requested an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her sudden death.
Detective Alicia Stone, 40, was found unresponsive in her hotel room early Thursday morning, around 6:30 a.m., and was quickly transported to Foundation Valle del Lili hospital in Cali. She was pronounced dead just an hour later, as confirmed by law enforcement officials.
The medical cause of death has been reported as “undetermined cardiac arrest.” Sources indicated that Stone had undergone fat grafting surgery and liposuction in Japan just a week prior to her death, specifically on October 16.
Post-surgery, it was noted that she was on anticoagulants and painkillers and had moved to a hotel for her recovery.
Michael Stone, her husband, stated he plans to order an autopsy and investigate the cause of her unexpected passing. He recounted the moment he received the dreadful call from her doctor in Colombia, telling him she had passed away.
“It was really shocking and heartbreaking to get that call,” Michael said. He expressed confusion and concern over the lack of information surrounding her death, noting that she had seemed perfectly fine just before the surgery and even communicated with family the day before, assuring them she was well.
A fundraiser set up for Alicia’s family described her as a dedicated public servant and loving mother whose impact on those around her—both in uniform and out—was deeply felt. The unexpected loss has left a significant gap in the lives of her family, friends, and colleagues.
The Brazilian butt lift (BBL) procedure, which involves grafting fat to enhance the buttocks, carries certain risks. Experts warn that intramuscular fat injections can lead to serious complications, like fat emboli, which can be fatal.
Following her death, authorities initiated contact with Colombian National Police, the U.S. State Department, and consular officials. Reports also mention that NYPD detectives have been sent to Colombia to look into the case.
The family has yet to make a public statement regarding the situation.
