Democratic strategist James Carville made headlines on Thursday with some controversial remarks following the election results earlier in the week.
“I’m thinking about finding a convicted pedophile and seeing if he could beat a Republican,” Carville stated during the “Politics War Room” podcast.
He clarified, “I don’t mean to suggest that a convicted pedophile would actually win.” He also mentioned, “The Republican he was up against ran a solid campaign.”
His comments arose as Democrats secured several significant wins, including Jay Jones, who defeated the Republican incumbent Jason Miyares for Virginia attorney general. This victory came despite some problematic texts from Jones that had surfaced, which included violent language.
Jones had been criticized after writing about then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert getting “two bullets in the head,” raising eyebrows about the Democratic Party’s stance on political violence.
Carville acknowledged the controversy by saying, “We’re sharing the most intriguing news from this cycle. Even more captivating than the Bucks County Republican who shared the text and just lost.” He further remarked on the heavier “baggage” faced by the Republican Party compared to its candidates’ shortcomings, noting, “Trump people have baggage.”
On the podcast, Carville went on to express confidence in a Democrat winning the presidency in 2028, suggesting that the Supreme Court could be expanded. “Let’s talk about what’s coming. We’re likely to see a Democrat in the White House in 2028,” he stated.
Carville predicted that there would be recommendations for increasing the number of justices from nine to thirteen, led by a Democratic administration after a successful electoral sweep. “If we want a Supreme Court the American people trust again, we need action,” he explained.
Previously, Carville had made predictions about Kamala Harris winning in January and had adjusted his views regarding the economy’s influence on the elections.
