On Saturday night, a 27-year-old woman was stabbed in the chest by a suspect at a Chicago train station. This incident comes nearly three months after the tragic murder of Ukrainian refugee Irina Zalutka on a light rail train in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was attacked by an assailant with a pocketknife.
The attacker reportedly approached the victim on the UIC Halstead Blue Line platform near the University of Illinois at Chicago around 11:14 p.m. He pulled a large knife from his backpack and, without any apparent provocation, stabbed her as she sat on a bench. According to the Chicago Police Department, the suspect then fled northbound on South Morgan Street.
The woman sustained serious injuries, including lacerations to her chest, and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, as confirmed by the police.
Law enforcement is actively trying to locate the individual responsible for this attack. They describe him as wearing a pink beanie, a gray hooded jacket, an orange sweatshirt, light blue jeans, and white shoes. He was also carrying a gray backpack.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to Area 3 Detectives at (312) 744-8261 or submit an anonymous tip through CPDTIP.com.
In a related note, a brutal stabbing related to a separate incident occurred in Charlotte on August 22. There, 34-year-old DeCarlos Brown Jr. fatally stabbed 23-year-old Zalutka three times, including a neck wound, in a shocking and unprovoked attack on a Lynx Blue Line train. Brown, a homeless individual diagnosed with schizophrenia, was apprehended and charged with homicide last month.
Additionally, Saturday’s stabbing came just hours after a chaotic scene in Chicago, where an undocumented Mexican immigrant allegedly opened fire on Border Patrol agents. During a search for immigrants in the Little Village neighborhood, this unidentified gunman fired several rounds before fleeing in a Jeep. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident.
Since the initiation of Operation Midway Blitz by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Chicago last month, there has been an uptick in violent altercations between federal agents and protesters. This operation is said to target criminal illegal immigrants who, allegedly, have been drawn to the area by certain protective policies. Recent statistics indicate that approximately 1,500 arrests have been made by Customs and Border Protection in the Chicago area since mid-September, while ICE has reportedly apprehended around 1,400 individuals.
