Gang ties linked to mass shooting at child's birthday party that left 4 dead, including 3 children, according to the mayor.

A tragic shooting during a birthday party in California resulted in the deaths of three children and a teenager, with the mayor linking the event to gang activity.

The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. Saturday at the Monkey Space ballroom in Stockton, approximately 40 miles south of Sacramento, resulting in a total of 15 casualties.

Mayor Christina Fugazi characterized the violence as “domestic terrorism,” emphasizing that it stemmed from gang issues. “Whatever you want to call it, this is domestic terrorism. This is gang violence, and it needs to end in our cities,” she stated.

Following the shooting, Fugazi mentioned that aides to President Trump had contacted her, expressing willingness to assist and urging the U.S. District Attorney to pursue the individual responsible, who is still at large.

The White House has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the shooting.

Heather Brent, from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, indicated that while there was initially one suspect identified, the investigation now considers the possibility of multiple suspects. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire from various directions during the incident.

The victims, ages 8, 9, 14, and 21, were confirmed by police, and the injured included children aged 9, 12, and others ranging from 15 to 22 years old. The condition of the injured varies, with a 9-year-old boy reported to be in “fair condition” and one adult suffering minor injuries.

Authorities have suggested that the shooting appeared to be planned. “This is an ongoing investigation, and our information is still limited,” Brent stated, adding that early signs indicated a targeted attack.

A vigil was organized by local faith leaders to honor the victims and support the wounded. The youngest victim was a student in a local school whose parents are part of the Stockton Unified School District. Counselors will be available in schools this week to assist those in mourning.

Community leaders expressed deep sorrow over the ages of those who lost their lives. “They’re probably writing their Christmas lists right now, their parents are going Christmas shopping, and they think their lives are over. I can’t even imagine what this family is going through. It’s heartbreaking,” Fugazi reflected.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to reach out via local Crime Stoppers to help ensure justice is served.

District Attorney Ron Freitas encouraged the shooter to come forward. “Today, local authorities confirmed that the victims were just 8, 9, 14, and 21 years old, and that this attack was likely targeted. My heart breaks for their families and the entire Stockton community,” he noted.
