Controversy Surrounds Gwen Stefani’s Prayer App Endorsement
Gwen Stefani, the popular No Doubt singer and committed Catholic, faces criticism from LGBTQ activists for her recent endorsement of the Catholic prayer app, Hallow, which encourages followers to engage in prayer during the holiday season.
In a video promoting the app, Stefani expressed her love for Christmas, stating, “The Christmas season has always been my favorite time of the year. It’s the season of celebrating the birth of our Lord.” She invited viewers to join her and millions of other Christians in celebrating the message of God’s love through Jesus.
However, her endorsement didn’t sit well with some online critics. Activists accused her of pushing a political agenda, with one noting Hallow’s connection to Vice President J.D. Vance and labeling it as “anti-abortion.” In a pointed video review, the activist remarked, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year, aka Gwen Stefani’s time to pay for the right-wing anti-abortion paid prayer app Hallow.”
They went on to criticize the funding behind Hallow, claiming it benefitted from substantial financial backing from Vance, who is noted for his controversial views, along with billionaire Peter Thiel, who has been a significant figure in conservative politics.
The activist described Stefani’s support for the app as a “pay-for-prayer scam,” making a pointed reference to a specific prayer passage that discusses abortion in sensitive circumstances. “I mean, we’re really sorry for what your uncle did to you, but—what!” was their dramatic take on this aspect of the app’s message.
They further labeled Vance and Thiel as “evil people” using Hallow to promote views that are intolerant of abortion rights—even in cases of rape or incest—by aligning themselves with a well-known public figure like Stefani. Wrapping up their criticism, the activist quipped that Stefani, once known for her hit “Hollaback Girl,” seemed to embody irony in her new role promoting Hallow.
Currently, Hallow is running a prayer challenge for Advent, featuring prayers from various celebrities, including Stefani, Chris Pratt, and others.
