On Tuesday, police announced that the individual linked to the shooting death of Jets cornerback Chris Boyd has been charged with attempted murder.
Frederick Green, aged 20, was arrested on Monday in Buffalo after officers pursued a gray Mercedes tied to his girlfriend.
Additionally, Green is facing charges for assault and possession of a weapon related to the incident that occurred in the early hours of November 16. Reports indicate that Boyd, 29, was shot in the abdomen outside Say Less, an Asian fusion restaurant on West 38th Street, near Seventh Avenue.
On Tuesday afternoon, he was transferred from the Midtown South Precinct in Manhattan to stand for arraignment in criminal court.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney shared earlier that Boyd was out with linebacker Jamian Sherwood, wide receiver Irvin Charles, and a friend from Texas when they experienced a tense moment with a group of individuals outside the restaurant.
Apparently, after entering the restaurant, Boyd and his friends left after only about five to ten minutes because, according to the chief, “the ambiance” felt off.
Once they stepped outside again, they encountered the same group who had previously insulted them about their attire, prompting further verbal exchanges. There seemed to be an underlying question of status, as indicated by Kenney’s comments.
During this confrontation, the gunman shot Boyd, resulting in a bullet lodged in his lung.
Green, who resides in the Bronx, has a history of four previous arrests, many of which have been sealed. Earlier this year, he faced charges for illegal possession of personal identifying information and for a controlled substance, according to sources.
Notably, he also had a juvenile arrest for reckless endangerment in 2024 and another sealed juvenile arrest for robbery in 2018.
Authorities revealed that a combination of tips from CrimeStoppers along with surveillance footage helped lead them to the suspect.
