Joe Burrow Reflects on Injuries and Commitment to Football

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow recently made some noteworthy comments regarding his future in professional football during a media session. Since entering the NFL in 2020, Burrow has faced a series of injuries that have raised questions about his long-term career.

Burrow’s injury history includes a torn anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in his left knee during his rookie year, a torn ligament in his right wrist earlier this year, and missed games due to turf toe this season. These setbacks have undeniably made his journey more challenging.

He mentioned that if he’s healthy, the Bengals can expect to be competitive, possibly even a playoff team, with him being a strong candidate for MVP. On the other hand, without him, their prospects don’t look great.

When asked about whether his recent injuries had affected his perspective on football, he replied, “It’s certainly not going to change my desire to win. If I want to continue doing this, I’ve got to have fun. I’ve been through a lot, but if it’s not fun, then what are you doing it for? That’s the mindset I try to bring to the table.”

Burrow reflected on his career and seemed to suggest that his current outlook is a result of the various challenges he has faced. “I don’t know if there was a singular moment or time. It’s a reflection of what I’ve done and been through so far,” he said, adding, “I think I’ve been through more than most people, and it’s definitely not easy on the brain or the body. So I’m just trying to enjoy it again.”

His situation is reminiscent of former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, who also faced significant injuries that ultimately led to his retirement.

At 29, Burrow has played 73 games, throwing for 19,735 yards and 148 touchdowns. His football journey has certainly been eventful, and it’ll be interesting to see how he navigates the future.
