MTG Leaves Interview During Tough Questions About Previous Statements

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Walks Out of Interview

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, ended an interview with 11Alive abruptly on Wednesday after co-anchor Zach Merchant pressed her about some of her previous political remarks.

Greene had announced her resignation effective January 5 after receiving the label of “traitor” from former President Donald Trump, a term she has used to describe others in the political arena. During the interview, she voiced her frustration when Merchant repeatedly brought up her past comments.

“You’ve mentioned wanting to move away from the toxic politics that we see today,” Merchant pointed out. “Yet, you have a history of making controversial statements. Do you feel there’s anything you should apologize for?”

Greene responded, saying, “This question keeps coming up in interviews, and I’ve addressed it before. I think both sides of the aisle have been harmed by toxic politics. I’m just one of many caught up in this.” She emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for one’s words.

Despite her attempts to shift the discussion, Merchant pressed on. “You mentioned that Trump calling you a traitor was a turning point. In the past, you’ve also labeled Republican Congressman Bob Good as a traitor and criticized others for their votes on Biden’s infrastructure bill. Do you regret those comments?”

Greene acknowledged some regret over her language but insisted that she had already addressed the issue and there was nothing new to discuss. She reiterated her feeling of being a target in the harsh political climate.

Merchant persisted, asking for a clearer acknowledgment of regret. Greene replied, “I’ve already talked about this extensively. I’ve addressed it before.” She seemed frustrated with the ongoing questioning.

Merchant pointed out the potential immodesty in calling colleagues traitors, describing his question as fair. Greene countered by saying Merchant was contributing to the toxic rhetoric she denounced, urging him to take responsibility for his comments.

Eventually, as Merchant shifted topics, Greene opted to end the interview. “Thank you for your time. Wishing you the best,” she said as she departed.
