Independent Journalist Returns to Child Care Center Amid Fraud Allegations
Independent journalist Nick Shirley and his assistant, “David,” made a visit to the Quality Learning Center in Minneapolis on Tuesday, donning sweatshirts emblazoned with “1-800 FRAUD.” This comes in the wake of their viral video that accused state-subsidized child care facilities in Minnesota of fraud.
During their time at the facility, David mentioned to reporters that he had actually filed criminal charges against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, linking him to the extensive fraud claims.
A post shared on X depicted both men outside the center in their matching sweatshirts, and Shirley captioned it with, “We learn and stop fraud.”
Interestingly, their sweatshirts featured the phrase “Quality ‘Learning’ Center,” with a deliberate misspelling reflecting the actual signage at the facility alleged to be involved in fraudulent activities.
Their visit followed the management’s assertion that Shirley’s original video was misleading, claiming it was filmed outside of operating hours and did not accurately represent the center’s activities.
State officials, along with daycare administrators, have denied any wrongdoing. They argued that there was no fraud and that taxpayer funds were collected appropriately, a stance they reiterated on Monday.
The controversy arose from Shirley’s video, which showcased several state daycare centers. Notably, Quality Learning Center appeared inactive during his filming even though it received state funding.
Shirley’s video drew significant online attention, garnering support from figures like Rep. Mike Lawler (RN.Y.), Donald Trump Jr., and Elon Musk, while others, including Walz, contested his claims.
This scandal is particularly sensitive as it involves alleged social welfare fraud amounting to at least $1 billion, primarily impacting the Somali community in Minneapolis.
On Tuesday, David confirmed to reporters that he had indeed filed criminal charges against Walz related to the fraud allegations.
He noted, “I have filed a formal criminal complaint against Mr. Tim Walz for violating Section 9 of Minnesota Statute 3.971.” This complaint was reportedly filed three to four weeks ago, highlighting the ongoing investigation into the matter. David expressed that Walz “allowed this fraud to happen,” emphasizing the political motivations behind it.
He remarked on the situation, mentioning that many had already recognized Shirley at just this facility, stating, “it’s so bad right now that you go to the facility and they’re already screaming Nick Shirley, Nick Shirley, Nick Shirley.”
FOX News Digital has reached out to Walz’s office for further comments regarding these allegations.
