President Trump addressed the deadly shooting involving an ICE agent in Minneapolis, suggesting it seemed to be a matter of “self-defense.” He also raised concerns about “radical leftists” potentially endangering the agent.
According to reports, the incident unfolded when a woman reportedly drove her car at an ICE officer on the street, leading the officer to fire shots in an attempt to stop her.
The Department of Homeland Security shared on social media that during a targeted operation, ICE officers were confronted by a crowd. One individual, who had a weapon in their car, allegedly attempted to run over a law enforcement officer, which the Department characterized as an act of domestic terrorism. The ICE officer, feeling threatened for his safety and that of his colleagues and the public, discharged his weapon in self-defense.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, a Democrat, reacted swiftly, claiming that ICE was inducing chaos and urging the agents to leave the city immediately. He also demanded a press briefing, insisting on ICE’s withdrawal from Minneapolis.
Representative Rashida Tlaib, also a Democrat, expressed her opinion with a call to “Abolish ICE now.”
In a social media post, President Trump suggested that the shooting was indeed in “self-defense.” He commented on a video related to the incident, expressing disbelief that the targeted officer was alive but acknowledged that he was recovering in the hospital.
Trump later stated that such incidents arise because the radical left consistently threatens and targets law enforcement and ICE agents, who are merely doing their jobs to maintain safety. He emphasized the need to support law enforcement against this wave of violence and hostility from the radical left.
