James Ransone’s Cause of Death Confirmed as Suicide

James Ransone, the actor recognized for his role as Ziggy Sobotka in HBO’s “The Wire,” has passed away. A recently obtained death certificate indicates that he died by suicide in Los Angeles on December 19. He was 46 years old, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Following his death, Ransone’s wife, Jamie, honored him publicly on social media, expressing her love and gratitude for their family. She reflected on their relationship, stating, “I’ve said I love you a thousand times and I’ll love you again.” Jamie highlighted their beautiful partnership and the importance of their children, Jack and Violet.

Actor Ethan Hawke also shared his admiration for Ransone, calling him amazing and praising his talents and character. Soon after, a GoFundMe was launched to support Jamie and the children during this challenging time. The description of the fund emphasized how essential Jamie’s focus on her children is now, given their loss.

Ransone was known for his wit and charm. Friends recalled him as a loving father, deeply devoted to his family. The GoFundMe aims to help secure a stable future for them without Ransone’s presence.

Ransone had previously opened up about his struggle with addiction, revealing his journey to sobriety after battling heroin use for several years. In a past interview, he noted that he achieved sobriety before his role in “Generation Kill,” highlighting how he grappled with self-doubt during that time.

He also addressed a troubling chapter from his past involving allegations of sexual abuse by a former tutor, which he shared in a post that has since been removed. The specifics of that situation, however, were not detailed in his recent conversations.

In addition to his memorable role in “The Wire,” Ransone’s credits include appearances in “IT: Chapter 2,” “CSI,” “Hawaii Five-0,” and “Trem.” His latest television work was in the series “Poker Face,” which aired earlier this year.
