Neil Young Criticizes Trump and ICE on His Website
Canadian musician Neil Young has once again taken to his website to express his discontent with President Donald Trump and ICE officials, describing the state of the United States as “the biggest mess I’ve ever witnessed.”
This isn’t new for Young; he shares his anti-Trump sentiments regularly. On Saturday, he didn’t hold back.
“As I look out my window, I see the greatest chaos I’ve ever witnessed. Here in America, this great country that I’ve believed in for decades. It’s right here, right now,” the iconic “Heart of Gold” singer reflected.
Although Young became a millionaire in the U.S. during the 1960s, he only pursued U.S. citizenship in 2020. Now, he feels compelled to urge Americans to “wake up.”
“Wake up, people! America is a disaster today. Donald Trump is destroying America bit by bit with upstarts, people with no experience or talent, secretly alcoholic wife-beaters, incompetent government, and inexperienced leaders who only know Trump’s falsehoods to keep his support in order to maintain his unfavorable position in a Congress full of Republicans who act like idiots with no conscience,” he lamented. “Yes, he divided us. How did we elect these weirdos with no backbone, no values, no conscience, no way to save America?”
Young also hinted at a conspiracy theory, suggesting that Trump is “trying to turn our cities into battlegrounds so he can use the security law to cancel the election.” Although, well, it’s hard to tell what’s really going on.
The artist called for protest, insisting, “Something has to change this. We know what to do. Let’s stand up. Millions of people in peace. Too many innocent people are dying.”
“ICE is cold here in America. Before Trump, we didn’t have ICE. Before Trump, there were no soldiers on the streets. Everything he does is an attempt to build instability so he can stay in power,” he added.
Ending on a note about “love,” Young stated, “He knows nothing about love. He doesn’t know who you are. Take advantage of the love of your life, the love of each other, the love of your children, the love of you and them and us. In peace. Now.”
Young’s stance has often clashed with Trump’s actions. For instance, he has previously claimed to remove his music from platforms like Amazon and Spotify, only to return to them later. Recently, he even suggested pulling his music from Amazon in response to claims of Trump support.
On the music front, Young released a protest song against Trump last August, coinciding with the president’s decision to send in military support in Washington, D.C.
Trump’s actions in D.C. led to numerous arrests and are said to have significantly reduced crime rates. Still, despite urging peaceful resistance, Young previously included the phrase “86/47” in a heated blog, implying a drastic action against Trump.
