Jimmy Kimmel’s Comment on ICE and Minneapolis
In response to the recent shooting of Renee Nicole Good by ICE agents, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel made a pointed remark during his show. He suggested that President Trump should send these agents from Minneapolis to Iran to assist with protests against the Iranian government.
On his Monday night program, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” Kimmel humorously critiqued Trump’s ongoing actions in Minneapolis. After the shooting incident, Trump decided to deploy more ICE agents to the city. Kimmel quipped about this by comparing it to adding grease to a grease fire. He humorously questioned why the president wouldn’t address the anger surrounding Good’s death in a more constructive manner.
Kimmel painted a critical picture of Trump’s approach, mentioning the president’s claims that “Iran is seeking freedom more than perhaps ever before,” stating that the U.S. was ready to assist. Kimmel lightheartedly suggested, “Why not send all the ICE agents to Iran? They’d be of help there.”
In the aftermath of Good’s shooting, which occurred during an ICE operation, the Department of Homeland Security asserted that agents acted in self-defense against an attempted attack by Good. However, this explanation raised eyebrows among local leaders. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, speaking out shortly after the incident, called for the complete removal of ICE from the city, labeling the DHS’s claims as “garbage.”
Throughout the segment, Kimmel commended the numerous citizens who gathered for peaceful protests in the wake of the violence, emphasizing the importance of free speech, “while we still have First Amendment rights in Minneapolis.” He also challenged the idea posited by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who labeled Good a “domestic terrorist”, arguing that this narrative was intentionally exaggerated.
Kimmel’s remarks were well-received, as he echoed sentiments expressed in Frey’s passionate speech against ICE presence, which concluded to loud applause. He even wore a shirt demanding the removal of ICE, stating, “Get them out of Minneapolis. Get them out of all these cities.”
As tensions continue surrounding the situation, Kimmel’s blend of humor and critique sparked conversations about federal actions in the city and their implications on community safety and rights.
