U.S. to evaluate Trump's 'Golden Dome' missile defense system in important American region

Trump’s Golden Dome Missile Defense System to Launch in Guam

Democratic Representative James Moylan shared with Fox News Digital that President Donald Trump’s advanced missile defense initiative, known as the Golden Dome, is set to be rolled out in Guam. Moylan, who is a Republican from Guam, stated, “We’re having an Army battalion come over there to take the Golden Dome. This is where the president wants it to work. It all starts here.”

Moylan highlighted that Guam is accustomed to the integration of cutting-edge U.S. defense technologies.

Trump Proposes $15 Billion for Military Expansion

Moylan elaborated that the island, positioned in the Pacific Ocean between Japan and Australia, has its own strategic significance, noting, “We are the furthest west… There are some nuclear batteries there as well. There’s a lot happening.” He did not specify a timeline for testing the dome, and inquiries to the White House also went unanswered.

White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly remarked that the Golden Dome would utilize next-generation technology to shield Americans from evolving threats. Meanwhile, President Trump has urged lawmakers to raise defense spending to $1.5 trillion by 2027, which would mark a $500 billion increase from current figures.

Last year, Congress allocated around $25 billion for the Golden Dome as part of Trump’s tax and border security legislation called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. With Trump’s heightened requests, some Republicans, including Moylan, believe the upgrades to the missile defense system warrant a larger budget.

The Golden Dome aims to enhance missile defense capabilities, building on technology similar to that of Israel’s Iron Dome, which is vital for intercepting airborne threats.

Administration officials, including President Trump, have described this U.S. system as an expanded version of the Iron Dome designed to tackle increasingly sophisticated dangers.

Army Secretary Pete Hegseth discussed the plan for the Golden Dome in a paper, stating that it would incorporate space-based interceptors and sensors. “Golden Dome will gradually guard our nation against air attacks from all adversaries, prioritizing areas with the most significant threats,” he added.

The Army Department indicated that the system is meant to defend against various missile types, including ballistic and cruise missiles.

Moylan reiterated Guam’s strategic importance, stating, “Guam has always been crucial, from the Spanish era to now. With rising tensions, especially regarding Taiwan, it’s become a focal point.” He acknowledged that while the U.S. has allies in the region, they aren’t the same as having U.S. presence.

Focus on Defense Budget and Strategic Importance

“That’s why the defense budget is so essential to advancing this initiative. We’re defending our homeland and the people of Guam.” Moylan expressed optimism about stopping external threats. The Army Department did not provide comments when contacted.
