ICE Deputy Director Resigns to Campaign for Congress

The deputy director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has stepped down from her role to enter the congressional race.

Madison Sheehan confirmed her resignation on Thursday, stating her intention to challenge Rep. Marcy Kaptur, a long-serving Democrat from Ohio who has held the seat since 1982.

Sheehan shared her first campaign video on social media, expressing her conservative ideals: “I’m Madison Sheehan. I’m a Trump conservative running for Congress to protect American jobs, American paychecks, and American values,” she wrote, emphasizing action over excuses.

In her announcement video, Sheehan pointed to her achievements at ICE, claiming that she had “stopped more illegal immigrants than Kaptur in her 43 years in Washington.” She criticized the political establishment, suggesting that while “hypocrisy, excuses, and mistakes” may lead to job security in Congress, such failures can be detrimental in the farming industry, where she has roots.

During her time at ICE, Sheehan highlighted the hiring of 12,000 new agents and the deportation of over 2.5 million undocumented individuals.

She voiced her dissatisfaction with Kaptur’s record, specifically mentioning Kaptur’s votes against funding for a border wall while supporting taxpayer benefits for illegal immigrants. Furthermore, Sheehan criticized Kaptur for advocating tax increases on Americans, including deferring taxes on Social Security and overtime pay.

Sheehan added, “I’m tired of seeing my hard-working family, friends, and neighbors ignored when they pay more. Real change means real leadership, and I’ve done it before.”

In response to Sheehan’s candidacy announcement, Kaptur’s campaign emphasized her commitment to tangible results for voters, focusing on lowering costs for families, protecting affordable healthcare access, and fostering innovative investments in Northwest Ohio.

Kaptur’s camp mentioned, “While far-flung Republicans will battle through a chaotic primary in this once-again gerrymandered district, Rep. Kaptur is dedicated to delivering results.”

Sheehan is one of several Republicans vying for the open seat in Ohio’s 9th Congressional District.
