The race for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate took an unexpected turn when Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) announced his intention to pursue Alabama’s open governor’s seat.
However, President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Rep. Barry Moore (R-Ala.) on Saturday might have shifted the dynamics.
Trump expressed his support for Moore in a post on Truth Social, stating, “Congressman Barry Moore, an America First patriot who has been with me since the beginning (he was the first elected official in this country to endorse me!), is running for U.S. Senate in my beloved state of Alabama, winning landslides in 2016, 2020, and 2024 with the highest number of votes in the history of our great state.” He highlighted Moore’s prior achievements as a businessman and civic leader and emphasized his dedication to serving his community.
Trump added that as the next senator, Moore will focus on growing the economy, reducing taxes, promoting American-made products, securing borders, combating immigration crime, maintaining law and order, supporting the military and veterans, protecting election integrity, and defending the Second Amendment.
“Barry is a great friend, a fighter, and a winner, and I fully support him as he aims to become Alabama’s next U.S. senator. He won’t let you down!” Trump remarked.
Moore expressed his gratitude for the endorsement, stating, “I am truly honored to have received President Trump’s support. He has always prioritized America, and I’m proud to have been with him from the start. With his backing, I’m ready to hit the ground running. I will fight for Alabama values, ensure a secure border, and uphold the President’s America First principles. Thank you!”
Back in 2015, during a rally at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, a then-state representative Moore was one of the first to endorse Trump’s initial presidential campaign.
Trump’s endorsement of Moore came alongside support from the Club for Growth.
The Club for Growth PAC, which previously backed Moore in the 2020 and 2024 elections, praised him as a “seasoned conservative champion.” Club for Growth PAC President David McIntosh remarked, “Congressman Barry Moore is a veteran conservative champion who has tirelessly advocated for Alabamians on Capitol Hill. He is a steadfast fiscal conservative with multiple Economic Freedom Champion Awards and a consistent supporter of President Trump. We are excited to support Congressman Moore in this race and look forward to his future as Alabama’s U.S. senator.”
