Attempted Kidnapping Leads to Shooting in Bradenton
A convicted felon currently serving time for kidnapping and other offenses tried to abduct a woman in Bradenton, Florida, on New Year’s Day while she was walking her dog. This was confirmed by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
According to police, the woman managed to escape from the suspect’s vehicle and hurried home to inform her husband about the ordeal.
Detectives reported that the husband confronted the suspect outside their residence. The suspect reportedly approached them in a threatening manner.
In a moment of self-defense, the husband shot at the suspect once, as stated by the sheriff’s department.
The sheriff’s office noted that the entire episode unfolded in just a few minutes.
Authorities responded to the shooting at 12:27 a.m. Unfortunately, the 36-year-old suspect succumbed to his injuries at the scene despite attempts to save him.
The investigation revealed that the suspect was unknown to the couple. The incident was classified as random, as he had been causing disruptions at a nearby convenience store prior to the attack. It is suspected that he might have been under the influence of drugs.
An autopsy later indicated that the suspect died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, and toxicology tests are ongoing to ascertain which substances were in his system at that time.
The state attorney’s office deemed the shooting as an act of self-defense, aligning with the husband’s account of the incident.
Public reaction on social media has largely praised the husband’s actions, with comments expressing admiration and support for his quick response.

- Another mentioned they would be raising a toast in his honor.
