Stabbing Incident in Parkland, Wash.
A man is under suspicion for stabbing a resident of Parkland, Washington, and his dog early Sunday morning in a convenience store parking lot, following a conversation about religion, as reported by local authorities.
Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputies received a 911 call from Eddie Nischke around 6:30 a.m. He explained that he, along with his girlfriend and their two dogs, had exited their car when the attack occurred in the lot where they were staying. Medical responders quickly transported Nischke to the hospital, while both dogs were taken to a veterinary facility, where they remained in critical condition due to their injuries.
Nischke recounted that the encounter started when the suspect approached him and inquired about his faith. Initially, Nischke stated he wasn’t religious. But then he added, “I think I’m a Christian,” after the man persisted in questioning him.
Following this, the suspect accused him of stalking the woman, which Nischke denied, prompting the attacker to launch the assault. The assailant reportedly used two knives to strike Nischke multiple times, inflicting a punctured lung. At one point during the chaos, Nischke urged his girlfriend to release their dog, but the dog, in an instinctive move, lunged at the attacker and was also stabbed.
“My shirt was soaked with blood,” Nischke recalled.
Officers, aided by a K-9 unit, searched the vicinity and located the suspect approximately 8:45 a.m., as he fled into a residential neighborhood. A deputy confronted him in a backyard, discovering that he was armed. Following a brief pursuit, officers fatally shot the suspect.
According to Lakewood Police Department spokesman Charles Porsche, the individual charged toward officers wielding several knives.
In the aftermath, paramedics transported the suspect to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Nischke remarked on the unsettling experience of hearing commotion as the suspect was brought nearby shortly after the incident. “I felt conflicted,” he admitted, stating that while he felt sick hearing about the suspect’s death, he also reflected, “But then I thought, ‘He just stabbed me.’”
Nischke was diagnosed with a collapsed lung, a blood clot in the brain, and lung cancer, which doctors had suspected since last year. Despite medical advice to remain hospitalized, he chose to leave to check on his dog.
No deputies sustained injuries during the incident, and the Pierce County Major Crimes Task Force is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the stabbing and subsequent shooting. Authorities have indicated that details regarding the suspect’s local connections are limited.
The Lakewood Police Department has yet to respond to queries about the matter.
