A compassionate father of three was tragically shot and killed by a woman who had picked him up while he was trying to get to a warming shelter related to global warming, according to police reports.
Brittany Livoir, 36, has been charged with the murder of William Palmer, whom she allegedly shot before stealing his truck in St. Louis, Missouri, early on Sunday morning.
The criminal complaint states that Palmer had initially attempted to give Livoir a ride with a friend, but the friend felt uncomfortable and decided to exit the vehicle.
Livoir, previously convicted of tampering with a vehicle in 2024, is said to have shot Palmer in the head and then drove off several blocks before abandoning the truck, according to authorities.
After that, she reportedly hitched a ride with another driver who was unaware of her actions until her arrest.
The reasons behind this tragic shooting remain unclear, but Palmer’s family emphasizes that he routinely helped those in need.
“From what we understand, she was at a gas station and asked him to take her to a warming shelter because she was feeling cold,” mentioned Ryen Jones, who is engaged to Palmer.
“He was just trying to help her, and it’s unbelievable that this happened after offering her a ride,” Jones added.
At the time of the incident, Palmer was collecting scrap metal and was known for offering rides to strangers. His family expressed concern about his helpful nature, with Jones saying, “I always warned him against picking up people off the street because he often did that. If he saw someone walking, he would stop and offer them a lift.”
Livoir is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, unlawful firearm possession, armed criminal action, and first-degree vehicle tampering.
She is currently being held in jail without the possibility of bail.
