Understanding Trump’s Election Comments
Sometimes, when things get complicated, humor is the best way to cope.
During a segment on The View, the hosts analyzed a clip featuring President Trump speaking with NBC’s Tom Lamas. Lamas questioned Trump about his remark regarding “nationalizing elections.”
Trump clarified, saying, “I didn’t use the word ‘nationalize.’ What I meant is that in certain areas, elections are very corrupt.” He was then asked if he would have faith in the midterm results should the Republicans lose Congress. Trump replied confidently, “I would if the elections were truthful.”
Whoopi Goldberg seemed bewildered and expressed her disagreement, reflecting on Trump’s earlier statements. “Did your TV break? Didn’t anyone show you what you’ve said?” she exclaimed. “It’s on tape! Are we now to believe it was an AI-generated moment?”
Goldberg, struggling to articulate her thoughts, was supported by Joy Behar suggesting “maybe it’s just short-term memory loss.”
“Maybe,” Goldberg responded, “But does that mean if Republicans lose, we’ll see more accusations of election fraud?”
Sunny Hostin acknowledged that Trump seemed “set up for that,” which only frustrated Goldberg more.
“I’m at my wit’s end. Just so you know,” she declared. “You called Georgia when you lost. You literally asked for ‘just 11,000 votes.’ We all watched it! If you truly believe you won, why would you need extra votes?”
Goldberg received applause from the audience, laughing as she recalled Trump’s attempt to obtain ballots long after they were valid. “This is why people think you’re cheating! The state of Georgia literally told you, ‘Sir, you lost!’ They made it clear!”
The View broadcasts on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
