Foreign Nations and Liberal Elites Attack President Trump’s National Security Tariffs

Trump’s Tariff Policies Persist Amid Challenges

President Donald Trump recently stated that his administration will continue to enforce strong tariff policies despite potential challenges from the Supreme Court. “We’re going to do it anyway,” he asserted.

A year into his second term, Trump’s America First trade approach appears to be yielding results. With midterm elections on the horizon and left-wing activists becoming more assertive, it’s crucial for Republicans in Congress to ensure the promised $2,000 dividends for American families. This involves advocating for Trump’s tariffs, which are intended to bring millions of jobs back to the U.S., particularly focusing on defending tariffs related to essential metals and minerals that are facing criticism from bureaucrats and foreign competitors.

Having spent 14 years in Congress and chaired the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security, I feel strongly about the strategic significance of critical metals used by the military. During his first term, Trump implemented Section 232 tariffs on aluminum and steel imports—a move I fully supported as a means to protect American jobs and enhance national security.

However, after President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office, they rescinded these tariffs on aluminum and steel, granting significant tariff waivers. Following his re-election, Trump reinstated those tariffs, even raising them to 50% in June 2025 to preserve tens of thousands of American manufacturing jobs.

Since then, the updated tariffs have come under threat from importers and D.C. bureaucrats who prioritize profit over patriotism. Aluminum extruders across the nation play a vital role in supporting America’s infrastructure and military needs. This industry is crucial, generating more than 200,000 direct and indirect jobs, yet it currently faces significant challenges attributed to foreign importers.

So, how is this getting undermined? Foreign importers, in collaboration with liberal activists and bureaucrats, are misrepresenting the value of processed aluminum entering the U.S. These entities seem to miscalculate the costs and report only a small fraction of the total value of foreign products. Essentially, they are paying duties based solely on raw material costs rather than the actual high value of fully manufactured goods. The implications are serious—if this continues, 200,000 American jobs could vanish before the midterms.

The unfortunate truth is that Trump’s aluminum tariffs are not being enforced effectively, resulting in thousands of job losses in aluminum extrusion. Instead of bringing jobs back to the U.S., importers are flooding the market with foreign aluminum parts. U.S. Customs plays a role in this issue, undermining efforts to restore jobs and strengthen security.

With such a significant number of American jobs at risk in key battleground states, it’s imperative for those involved to address this before it escalates further. The solution is straightforward: the President needs to instruct the Department of Commerce and U.S. Customs to close loopholes and enforce the tariff program correctly, imposing a specific tariff based on the weight of imported products. We cannot allow foreign importers to continue taking American jobs through unfair trade practices.

If bureaucrats from the previous administration persist in undermining the President’s initiatives, it could negatively impact Republican candidates in close congressional races. MAGA Republicans exerted great effort to elect Trump, and maintaining control of Congress is paramount. We must not let foreign importers or domestic adversaries lessen Trump’s achievements.

As the 2026 midterm elections draw near, now is the critical moment to counter leftist bureaucrats and foreign influences working to weaken the President’s successful policies. If we remain committed to supporting millions of American workers, Republicans can secure a strong position in Congress this November.
