Iran’s Supreme Leader Mocks Trump Amid Tensions

In Washington, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei took a jab at President Trump, implying that the U.S. military, known for its strong naval presence in the region, could be “hit so hard it won’t stand up.”

This mockery came as representatives from the U.S. and Iran convened in Geneva to address issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and the escalating tensions between the two nations.

Khamenei expressed his disdain publicly, declaring, “The president of the United States claims that his military is the strongest in the world, but even the world’s strongest military can sometimes be slapped so hard that it cannot stand up.” His comments were relayed by Iranian media.

This rhetoric follows Khamenei’s recent actions, including a violent crackdown that led to the deaths of at least 7,000 individuals during nationwide protests. He further threatened to sink a U.S. warship, according to human rights organizations.

Khamenei’s team remarked, “We have always said that the Americans sent warships to Iran. Of course, a warship is a dangerous piece of military equipment. But even more dangerous than a warship are the weapons that can send it to the bottom of the ocean.”

As tensions rise with the U.S., Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have begun training in critical areas, including the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf, and the Gulf of Oman.

Trump has not dismissed the option of military action against Iran’s theocratic government. His military buildup in the region resembles the forces he gathered near Venezuela prior to the January 3 raid aimed at capturing Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

When asked about the potential for regime change in Iran, Trump stated, “That seems like the best thing that could happen.” He also hinted at possible actions towards Tehran’s nuclear facilities, saying, “If we did, that would be the minimum mission.”
