Trump Organization Signs $1 Billion Skyscraper Deal in Australia
The Trump Organization recently announced it has finalized plans for a $1 billion skyscraper project on Australia’s Gold Coast. The intended building will stand at 91 stories high in Queensland, according to a statement from the organization.
Local developer Altus Property Group highlighted that the skyscraper will feature 270 residential apartments alongside a “six-star resort hotel,” which will include various shops and likely a beach club. Mr. Altus expressed enthusiasm, stating, “Australia’s tallest building will be Trump Tower in the middle of Surfers Paradise. This is great for tourism in Queensland and great for Australia.”
He further mentioned, “There’s no Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton branding above the front door, but it does say ‘Trump,’ and that means no expense was spared and the building is of the highest quality possible – the best building in the world.” There seems to be a clear level of pride in the project’s ambition.
This development comes amid a backdrop of legal challenges faced by Donald Trump, including lawsuits against various banks for allegedly closing his accounts after the events on January 6, 2021. JPMorgan Chase Bank confirmed last week that it had closed Trump’s accounts, which reportedly happened after the Capitol incident, but this admission seems to stem from a $5 billion legal dispute initiated by Trump.
In this context, notable real estate activities appear to be ongoing. David Young, CEO of Altus, noted that planning for projects like this has occurred over many years. Interestingly, he recalled an instance from back in 2007 when Trump contacted Ivanka Trump regarding a potential deal.
Meanwhile, Trump’s legal team is claiming that the account closures were politically motivated, alleging “unlawful” actions against their client. Trump’s longstanding relationship with JPMorgan, which involved “hundreds of millions of dollars” in transactions, has been emphasized by his lawyers.
Aside from his dealings with JPMorgan, the Trump Organization has also filed a lawsuit against Capital One, claiming that the bank improperly suspended over 300 accounts belonging to Trump and his family in 2021. In response, a Capital One spokesperson maintained that account closures were never done for political reasons.
