Celebrating a New Hockey Milestone

Mike Eruzione, who became a hockey legend back in 1980, is calling for everyone to just “shut up” and enjoy the moment. This past Sunday, Jack Hughes made waves by scoring a golden goal in overtime against Canada during the Milan-Cortina tournament, echoing Eruzione’s historic achievements.

To commemorate their first gold medal since Eruzione’s “Miracle on Ice,” the 2026 U.S. hockey team met with President Donald Trump, hosted a celebration in Miami, and even visited the Oval Office before attending the State of the Union address.

There’s been some backlash due to their interactions with Trump, including remarks about inviting a women’s team to the State of the Union. Photographs have surfaced showing Tage Thompson in a MAGA hat, while Jack and Quinn Hughes sported “45-47 USA” hats.

Eruzione, who famously scored the winning goal against the Soviet Union, downplayed the criticism. He reflected, “When you’re wearing an Olympic gold medal and feeling the joy it brought to so many people, who cares about the naysayers? It’s discouraging,” he mentioned, expressing his disregard for critics.

He commented on the importance of national pride, noting, “We live in the greatest country, and seeing our athletes perform, especially the women’s team, it’s incredible. Most athletes are proud to represent their country, but some find reasons to complain. Just enjoy the experience.” Eruzione reminisced about receiving no negativity from the press after his “miracle” moment, emphasizing how significant it feels to wear the USA jersey. He said, “There’s nothing quite like it. It’s about representing your country, not just your city.”

Recently, Jack Hughes returned to the NHL, receiving a warm welcome from fans of the New Jersey Devils as he played against the Buffalo Sabres, bringing a sense of camaraderie to his teammates.
