Trump Communicates with Netanyahu Following Attack on Iran

On Saturday morning, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt shared that President Trump has spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after initiating a joint military action against Iran.

Levitt noted on social media that President Trump was closely monitoring the situation overnight at Mar-a-Lago along with his national security team. She emphasized that he had a phone conversation with Netanyahu.

In a video message released on Truth Social at 2:30 a.m. ET, President Trump declared that airstrikes were underway, directing a message to Iran: “Control your own destiny.”

Levitt continued, indicating that Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed Congress, particularly the Group of Eight—a bipartisan assembly of key congressional intelligence figures—while the administration’s security leaders keep a close watch on developments.

Following attacks on Iran’s nuclear and military facilities, Iran retaliated by launching missiles at U.S. military bases scattered across the Middle East.

“Before the military action, Secretary Rubio reached out to members of the Group of Eight to convey information regarding the situation. Seven members were contacted, and the President along with his team will maintain vigilance throughout the day,” Levitt stated.

Meanwhile, a group of eight Democrats, including Rep. Jim Himes from Connecticut, criticized the military action. Himes expressed concerns in a statement that indicated this operation seemed like a choice for war without a clear goal. He remarked that military interventions in the region often don’t turn out favorably for the U.S., suggesting that a conflict with Iran might escalate unexpectedly. It appears President Trump hasn’t grasped the lessons of history quite yet.

Interestingly, Republican Rep. Thomas Massey also joined Democrats in voicing opposition to the U.S. attacks on Iran.

Recently, tensions with Iran have been escalating. The U.S. had resumed negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program following a series of military strikes earlier in June.

Before the weekend’s strike, President Trump had warned that Iran’s nuclear infrastructure needed complete dismantlement or else they would face consequences.

In his video message early Saturday, Trump conveyed a note of encouragement to the Iranian people: “Please evacuate. Don’t stay outside; it’s dangerous. Bombs are falling everywhere. After this, take over your government. It’s yours,” he stated, indicating that this might be a rare opportunity for change.
