Iran Launches Retaliatory Strikes Following U.S.-Israeli Military Action
On February 28, 2026, tensions escalated in the Middle East as Iran executed a series of retaliatory attacks. This came after the United States and Israel initiated a military operation aimed at dismantling the Iranian regime and curtailing its nuclear ambitions.
On that Saturday, Iranian drones targeted U.S. military installations in various Middle Eastern nations. Reports indicated explosions occurred in Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, and Jordan. Some government air defense systems did manage to intercept the missiles, yet officials expressed significant frustration over the incidents.
Naval Support Operations Bahrain, which houses the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, reported at least one explosion in its vicinity. The Kingdom of Bahrain News Agency condemned the Iranian missile strikes, describing them as a “clear violation” of sovereignty and security for several states.
“These attacks posed a serious threat to civilian and population safety. They show a blatant disregard for international law and good neighborliness,” remarked Saudi officials, urging the international community to denounce what they termed as criminal aggression.
Also reported as a target was the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest air force facility in the region. While Iranian missiles were intercepted, the potential for danger remained high. Qatar called for efforts to ease tensions, aiming to maintain regional stability.
High-level discussions took place among leaders including Qatar’s Sheikh Tamim, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, French President Emmanuel Macron, and others, as they navigated the rapidly developing situation.
Flight operations to and from Doha were temporarily halted. Bases in Kuwait, including Camp Arifjan and Ali Al Salem Air Base, reported hearing explosions and seeing missiles traversing their airspace.
An Iranian attack aimed at Riyadh was successfully intercepted. In response to the growing threat, Saudi Arabia expressed its solidarity with nations under attack, affirming its commitment to mobilize support for an appropriate response.
“Saudi Arabia strongly condemns the Iranian assault targeting Riyadh and Eastern Province, which was successfully thwarted. Such actions are unjustifiable and unacceptable,” stated the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The UAE reported that while a ballistic missile was directed at Al Dhafra Air Base, several missiles were intercepted, causing explosions but no injuries or damage. They voiced that any breach of national sovereignty threatens regional stability and emphasized that their security is linked to that of their neighbors.
“The UAE will not tolerate any compromises to its security or sovereignty,” they declared.
