California Police Alerted by FBI About Potential Drone Strikes from Iran

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a warning to police in California regarding the possibility of Iran carrying out drone strikes in response to a joint U.S.-Israel military action against the country, according to reports from ABC News.

The FBI stated that it has “received information” indicating that Iran may execute a “surprise attack using unmanned aircraft” if there is a military strike by the United States, potentially beginning in early February 2026.

“Recent intelligence suggests that as of early February 2026, Iran reportedly plans to launch unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel positioned off the coast of the continental United States to target unspecified locations, notably in California, if the U.S. engages in an attack against Iran,” the notification reads.

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office responded to this alert by mentioning that “the FBI bulletin is among several security updates the state receives.” This was shared by Bill Melgin of FOX News.

“Governor Newsom’s office has stated that the state has enhanced its security measures since the onset of the conflict. The FBI bulletin is part of a broader set of security updates provided by federal partners, which are then shared with local law enforcement,” Melgin reported.

Diana Crofts Pelayo, a spokesperson for Newsom, added that “the State Office of Emergency Services is collaborating with state, local, and federal security officials to safeguard communities across the state,” Melgin noted.

In addition, U.S. intelligence officials are increasingly alert to the rising use of drones by Mexican drug cartels, as reported by ABC News.

Concerns have grown among U.S. intelligence regarding the potential use of drones by Mexican drug cartels for attacks against U.S. military and law enforcement personnel near the border. A bulletin from September 2025 indicated that “unconfirmed reports” suggest cartel leaders may have authorized drone attacks carrying explosives against U.S. personnel along the U.S.-Mexico border. While such attacks on U.S. interests are unprecedented, it presents a possible scenario, yet cartels usually avoid provoking responses from U.S. authorities.”

This news from ABC comes after a joint strike by U.S. and Israeli forces aimed at dismantling “Iran’s missile stockpile.”
