Missing Brooklyn Teen Found Dead
Authorities have confirmed the identity of a 15-year-old boy from Brooklyn, New York, who disappeared about two months ago. His family mentioned he intended to meet someone he connected with on Roblox, an online game popular among children.
Thomas Medlin went missing on January 9 after leaving his school in Long Island and heading straight to the city. According to the Suffolk County Police Department, the last confirmed sighting was on the Manhattan Bridge walkway that same evening. After he vanished, his family indicated he went to meet someone he met online.
Investigators found that Medlin was last spotted on the bridge at 7:06 p.m. His cell phone had activity shortly after, at 7:09 p.m., and surveillance footage showed water splashing at 7:10 p.m. Officials noted that he was not seen leaving the bridge through the sidewalk exit.
Medlin’s body was discovered in the water near Red Hook, Brooklyn, on March 7, but it took until March 12 for authorities to confirm his identity.
The county reported that they looked into various social media and gaming profiles associated with Medlin and found no link to his disappearance, nor any indications of criminal activity. They have shared this information with his family and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
In late January, Roblox expressed its concern for Medlin’s family following his disappearance. The company said it had been in contact with law enforcement and shared relevant information regarding Medlin’s account.
The investigation revealed that all chat content on Medlin’s account was consistent with typical in-game conversations. There was no evidence of any off-platform contact or the use of voice chat.
A spokesperson for Roblox reassured that the platform prioritizes user safety, stating that it has robust policies designed to protect its users, including filters to prevent the sharing of personal information.
