West Virginia Man Arrested for Shooting Father with Crossbow

A man from West Virginia has been apprehended after allegedly shooting his father in the face with a crossbow. Authorities have indicated that this incident led to a multi-county chase through snowy landscapes.

Chase Fleming faces charges of aggravated assault, with the possibility of more charges to follow, as per the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. After an “extensive search” in the snow-covered regions of Jackson and Roane counties, he was taken into custody.

Reports suggest that the victim is currently in stable condition.

Fleming, after being arrested, required medical observation before being placed in jail. According to Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger, Fleming entered his father’s residence armed with a loaded crossbow. An argument ensued, and during this altercation, he discharged the weapon, striking his father in the face.

It has been reported that the bolt penetrated just below the left eye and exited through the back of the head. Sheriff Mellinger expressed his disbelief at the victim’s survival, stating, “I don’t understand how that guy is still alive, but it’s really amazing.”

Following the shooting, Fleming fled the scene in a pickup truck, which later crashed. The sheriff’s office utilized K-9 units and drones during the extensive search, covering about seven miles through the snowy terrain.

Eventually, Fleming was located hiding under a pile of rocks on a distant ridge and was taken into custody without incident. The determination of bond has yet to be made by the sheriff’s office.
