US Secretary of State Predicts Quick Resolution to US-Israel-Iran Conflict
In a recent press conference, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that he anticipates the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran to conclude within a few weeks. He made these remarks following discussions with G7 foreign ministers in France.
“The United States expects the war to be over within ‘weeks, not months,'” Rubio declared. He emphasized that this situation wouldn’t drag on for long, noting that the US was “ahead of schedule” regarding its operational goals.
Rubio also mentioned that the G7 countries—which include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the US—have a vested interest in resuming shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for about 20% of the world’s oil exports from the Gulf region.
“I’m not here to make them happy,” he stated. “Every country that values international law needs to take meaningful action.”
President Donald Trump shares a similar view, suggesting that US allies reliant on oil from this region should closely monitor developments there, while stressing that the US is not dependent on imports from Hormuz.
Reports indicate that Rubio hinted at the possibility of serious negotiations between the US and Tehran. Additionally, Trump expressed his desire to collaborate with what remains of Iran’s leadership after the US allegedly intercepted 10 oil tankers as a “gift” from the Strait of Hormuz.
During the meeting, Rubio suggested that the US is communicating with Iran indirectly through other parties. However, there’s a fair amount of uncertainty about who has the authority to engage with Iran directly.
In related news, Yemen’s Houthi group, which maintains ties with Iran, confirmed it had launched a ballistic missile attack on Israel. This marks the first offensive since Israel and the US initiated their operations against Tehran at the beginning of what was referred to as Operation Epic Fury.
Brigadier General Yahya Salih, the military spokesperson for the Houthis, declared that the Yemeni army successfully targeted a secret military site in Israel, supported by what he described as the grace of God.
“The Yemeni army launched its first military attack with ballistic missiles against a secret military operation in Israel, located in the southern part of occupied Palestine,” he announced.
The Houthis’ involvement in the conflict raises concerns about a potential escalation, as they have demonstrated the capability to strike targets well beyond Yemen. Their actions could threaten shipping routes near the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea, similar to their support for Hamas following the October 7 attack on Israel.
Reports indicate that Israel’s military intercepted a missile originating from Yemen, heightening tensions in the region.
