Iran’s Threat to American Tech Firms
On Tuesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) issued a warning aimed at American technology companies, claiming these firms are linked to assaults on Iran.
According to a statement from the Revolutionary Guards, reported by the Tasnim News Agency—one of the Islamic Republic’s official outlets—the companies were described as being “involved in terrorist activities” against Iran. The statement specifically named 18 firms, including notable ones like Tesla, Palantir, and Microsoft.
“Major institutions engaged in terrorist operations will be considered legitimate targets of our actions,” a translated excerpt of the statement posted on X said. “We suggest that employees at these companies evacuate their workplaces immediately to protect their lives.”
Further details were disclosed in a follow-up post, which emphasized that these companies should brace for “the destruction of each unit in retaliation for every terrorist act against Iran, beginning April 1 at 8:00 pm Tehran time.”
In fact, the Islamic Republic has already been focusing on American entities throughout its ongoing conflict. Shortly after hostilities began, Iran executed drone strikes on various Amazon Web Services bases located in Bahrain and the UAE, resulting in significant power outages in those regions.
Over recent years, many major tech companies have made substantial investments in the Middle East. Firms like NVIDIA, Cisco, and Oracle, all named by the IRGC, have partnered with OpenAI to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) “campus” in the UAE. Additionally, companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Oracle have invested tens of billions in the UAE and Saudi Arabia as part of their expansion efforts. It’s interesting, isn’t it? There’s a lot happening in that part of the world right now.
