Energy Secretary Criticizes Biden’s Energy Policies

Energy Secretary Chris Wright has expressed concerns that the Biden administration is leading the energy sector “into a ditch” due to significant subsidies for less reliable sources like solar energy and the depletion of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

In a recent interview on the “Katie Miller Podcast,” he pointed out the negative effects of former President Biden’s energy strategies, emphasizing that they pose a serious threat to the country’s stability. “If we mismanage our energy, we risk societal collapse,” he stated.

Wright attributed part of President Trump’s electoral success to the Biden administration’s approach to energy, suggesting, “It’s outrageous what they’ve attempted. We managed to redirect things before too much damage occurred. Still, we’ve squandered trillions in the process. The energy infrastructure in the Gulf needs urgent repairs; otherwise, we’ll be stuck with sustained high energy costs.”

He dismissed fears about the U.S. lagging behind countries like China in solar energy, arguing that losing all solar power wouldn’t be a significant blow. “If all the solar panels were removed tomorrow, it wouldn’t create a massive issue. We’re currently losing 10% of global oil production, which is the real crisis. The world would only lose 1.2% of its energy if all solar power vanished in a day,” he remarked.

Interestingly, despite being a proponent of solar energy, Wright remains opposed to subsidies for inconsistent power sources that hike electricity prices. He pointed out that he sees a promising future for nuclear energy, which he believes has been unfairly criticized by climate activists.

“Fear tends to sell better than comfort,” he said. “There’s an imbalance in politics and activism… The environmental sector has turned into a fearmongering business. It’s easy to raise substantial funds by scaring people about nuclear power and climate change. There are genuine concerns, but they often get exaggerated, and sadly, it works.”

Furthermore, Wright took aim at the Biden administration for tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to manipulate gas prices ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. He praised the previous administration’s efforts to replenish the reserve instead.

He declared, “By the end of next year, there will be more oil in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve than when President Trump took office. In any tangible sense, we’ll have increased the reserves since then.”

Biden’s office has yet to respond to inquiries regarding these statements.

Wright, who was appointed by Trump last year, has consistently criticized Biden’s energy policies. He previously argued in May that the administration had imposed more restrictions on Alaska’s oil and gas production than on nations like North Korea, Iran, and Venezuela combined.

“It’s as if Alaska has been choked more than we have done with those countries,” he remarked. “This state has immense natural resources, yet it’s being restricted unnecessarily.”
