Eric Swalwell Refutes Misconduct Claims Involving Staff, Attributes Them to MAGA Conspiracy Theories

All of this stems from sources on the left and various social media channels, yet Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) is still claiming that supporters of the MAGA movement are spreading unfounded rumors about inappropriate conduct with multiple female staff members.

“This outrageous and false rumor is being circulated just 27 days before the election, aimed at discrediting opponents who have unfortunately allied themselves with MAGA conspiracy theorists, especially since Eric Swalwell is leading in this race,” stated Swalwell’s campaign.

The origin of these claims seems to be Democratic activist Cheyenne Hunt, though they are described more as anticipatory statements rather than allegations.

“They’re targeting staff, interns, and even supporters, misusing their authority,” Hunt reported on Monday. “Messages on DMs and Snapchat indicated accusations ranging from inappropriate comments to potential criminal behavior.”

“The number of credible women reaching out since I shared the video has been surprisingly high, and connecting them with the investigative team that has been looking into this for years has really sped things up,” she added. “I’m optimistic this issue will be addressed sooner rather than later.”

“I should mention that I am a lawyer,” she said further. “I fully understand the risks involved in speaking out and how making false claims about a prominent figure on such a public platform could expose me to a defamation suit.”

She appears to have some support as well…

Mr. Hunt replied to the denial on Wednesday, as noted in politiko:

Regarding non-disclosure agreements, advisors for Swalwell took great care in their wording, indicating that Swalwell himself “never directly asked anyone to sign an NDA.” This leaves room for ambiguity, as it allows for his staff to potentially request such agreements. Even Swalwell’s camp, acknowledged by politiko, mentioned they have “privacy agreements to safeguard sensitive information.”

Swalwell is considered a leading candidate to succeed Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom, but current polls suggest a tight race involving six or more contenders.

Typically, I’d find it quite wearisome to see Cheyenne Hunt fanning the flames of rumors about impending misconduct allegations, regardless of the political affiliation involved. I try to maintain some level of fairness. But honestly, this feels like karma for Swalwell, who has consistently rushed to the media to amplify every single untruth about President Trump. He’s been known for dishonesty, so if a fabricated claim hampers his political career, well, that would be something…and here we are.
