Eric Swalwell Suspends Gubernatorial Campaign Amid Allegations
Last Sunday, Eric Swalwell put a halt to his campaign for governor in California. This decision followed several allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, which he has denied. The day after, he stepped down from Congress due to a significant decline in support and the departure of staff members.
In a related development, Glenn Beck read aloud an open letter he addressed to Swalwell, discussing the enduring principle of reciprocity.
Beck began by recalling Swalwell’s vocal opposition to Brett Kavanaugh during the Supreme Court confirmation hearings back in 2018. Swalwell had tweeted using the hashtag #BelieveSurvivors, suggesting that multiple accusers made compelling claims and that victims “deserve to be heard.” He also mentioned conducting an investigation into those claims.
“Senator, do you still hold that view?” Glenn questioned. “Because there are 50 women in your office with similar allegations. Should we bring them forward? Or is this situation different?”
He further referred to Swalwell’s stance during Kavanaugh’s hearings, where he argued against applying strict legal standards to public opinions, insisting that “the testimony of a single witness can prove any fact.”
“Maybe we should let one of those women speak out publicly and be believed, since, as you pointed out, she is a survivor,” he added.
Glenn criticized Swalwell for displaying “little patience for vigilance,” a lack of emphasis on the presumption of innocence, and minimal concern for due process during Kavanaugh’s hearings.
“It’s a sad reality that, back then—you weren’t alone. But today, I suspect you might feel isolated,” he remarked.
“Isn’t there a strange, bitter symmetry in all of this?” he continued. “You previously stated that accusations hold their own moral weight, pointing to a pattern of allegations as evidence of truth, and insisted that the accused must be transparent to prove innocence.”
However, Swalwell now calls for “time,” “fairness,” and “restraint.”
“The very principles you downplayed are now what you seek,” Glenn pointed out.
Labeling Swalwell as a “destructive, dishonest, selfish force,” he suggested that Swalwell appears to care only about his welfare. While Glenn acknowledged that suspicions surrounding Swalwell, regardless of their severity, remain suspicions, he made it clear he’s not sympathetic toward the fallout of Swalwell’s career.
“No one deserves to endure that suffering more than you,” he stated.
He further highlighted the irony of the progressive causes that Swalwell had previously supported, stating, “You were tearing down your progressive adversaries, so they shielded you, leading to a swell of your arrogance. You felt impervious—until you became a nuisance,” he remarked. “In true Marxist fashion, the ends justify the means; you’ve become expendable.”
Glenn considered Swalwell’s saga a clear illustration of a timeless law: “As you judge, so you will be judged.”
