South Africa’s Reality: A Farmer’s Perspective

South Africa has often been celebrated internationally as a post-apartheid “rainbow nation.” However, farmer Jason Bartlett challenges this narrative, claiming it doesn’t reflect the true situation.

Bartlett expresses his concerns, stating, “The South African government has set up a war room to spread misinformation and hide the chaos that is actually unfolding. South Africa is not a rainbow nation; it’s one of the most hostile places towards minorities, including myself.” He shared these thoughts during a conversation with Blaze Media co-founders.

He points to the existence of 146 racial laws, arguing that these contribute to systemic issues, including violence against farmers. “There are over 180 farm attacks reported annually, with a murder occurring roughly every seven to ten days,” he explains.

Yet, he notes, “These aren’t simply ordinary murders.” He details horrific acts of violence, including children being subjected to unimaginable torture. “A 12-year-old was boiled alive, or a child was tied up while their Achilles tendon was cut. Another was forced to watch her mother being raped. It’s barbaric and inhumane,” he laments, admitting he feels the need to speak bluntly about these issues.

Bartlett, who has left South Africa, is currently seeking asylum in the United States. He recounts a traumatic event involving his cousin, who was killed during what was deemed a “normal” break-in at a party. “Eight individuals broke in and shot him in the back of the head and then proceeded to desecrate his body while singing ‘Die, you white guy,'” he recalls somberly, emphasizing the horror his cousin’s young daughters witnessed.

He shares more about his family’s traumatic experiences, including another cousin who was kidnapped and assaulted. “I’ve faced two attempts on my life myself,” Bartlett reveals, adding, “It’s not about what you own; it’s about how you look,” which he feels drives the violence against him and others.
