Malik Nabers raises concerns about the Giants' first-round choices in the 2026 NFL Draft

Malik Nabors expressed a mix of emotions regarding the Giants’ first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft.

While on “B/R NFL Draft Night” alongside Packers standout Micah Parsons and host Adam Lefkow, Nabors shared his thoughts on the Giants drafting Arvel Reese with the fifth overall pick, as well as their decision not to pick Caleb Downs at No. 10.

His reaction didn’t suggest much enthusiasm for either choice.

After the draft, Nabors was curious about the team’s direction—he recalled asking, “Where does he fit in?” It seemed a bit puzzling since the Giants had previously selected a similar player after acquiring a linebacker from Ohio State.

“I appreciate the talent, but where’s he going to play?” Nabors wondered aloud. “You want to rush from the outside, but didn’t we just get someone in that position last year?”

The Giants had previously selected edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeau fifth overall in 2022 and Abdul Carter third overall last year.

Nabors clearly seemed to favor the idea of the Giants choosing Downs, the former Buckeyes safety, with one of their two early picks. He voiced his frustration when the Cowboys traded up to No. 11 to snag Downs after the Giants chose offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa.

On the livestream, others could hear him exclaiming in disbelief.

Nabors later commented on the prospect of facing Downs in the future, saying, “I’d rather have him on my team than play against him.” He added humorously, “But I’m coming for you… I have to face this guy again. He’s good, really good.”

Downs had a solid college football career across three seasons, first at Alabama and then at Ohio State, where he notched 257 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and six interceptions. Notably, he was part of the Buckeyes team that won a national championship in 2024.

Later that night, Downs appeared on a livestream, and Nabors made it clear he wasn’t exactly looking forward to the matchup, saying, “I’m not excited to play you twice a year, but it’ll have to happen.”

Nabors wrapped up his thoughts by expressing his admiration for Downs, saying, “I really wish you were in my locker room, but it’s exciting to watch your journey. I saw you at Alabama and Ohio State; I can’t wait to see what you bring to the field.”
