Jacob Fatu was defeated by Roman Reigns at WWE Backlash, but a message was delivered.

WWE Backlash Recap

WWE’s Backlash event was filled with tension and anticipation. Jacob Fatu aimed to take down Roman Reigns, while Trick Williams had something to prove against Sami Zayn, amidst distractions from Lil Yachty. The stakes were certainly high.

For the most part, things unfolded as expected. Reigns managed to defeat Fatu, retaining the World Heavyweight Championship, although he suffered a hard-hitting attack afterward. Williams successfully defended his United States title against Zayn, capitalizing on the distraction.

The fans were buzzing about who Danhausen’s mystery partner would be. Ultimately, they witnessed Minihausen pop out of the “Clone Machine” to aid Danhausen, who had strong support from several Minihausens throughout the bout. It was Danhausen who finally pinned The Miz, securing victory.

In another exciting match, Bron Breaker clinched a significant victory over Seth Rollins, landing a powerful Torpedo Spear. And then there was the standout match between Iyo Sky and Asuka.

Iyo Sky vs. Asuka

Sky and Asuka arguably delivered the match of the night, fueled by their ongoing feud. Asuka even resorted to using poison mist during their pre-match face-off. Despite the theatrics, it was Sky who emerged victorious, executing amazing moves, including an over-the-moonsault, to take the win. In a symbolic moment post-match, Asuka was seen embracing Sky, displaying an emotional side as she shed tears.

Before the match, Asuka hinted at her feelings through a cryptic social media post, and afterwards, Sky reflected on their encounter, expressing gratitude and admiration for Asuka. While it seemed like a farewell, it definitely felt more like a “see you later” moment.

AEW’s “Fairway to Hell” Special

Moving on to AEW, the “Fairway to Hell” special was well-received despite being just an hour long. The event took place at an indoor golf venue in Florida, featuring matches where the ring was surrounded by golf greens. Darby Allin defended his championship against Pac, and there were new champions, like Mark Davis, who claimed the AEW National Championship from Jack Perry.

The unique setup added a twist, and the visuals of wrestlers being thrown into bunkers were quite memorable. It seems like this concept might be something AEW considers revisiting in the future.

Leon Slater’s Record-Breaking Opportunity

Meanwhile, Leon Slater is gaining attention in TNA. He’s set to challenge Cedric Alexander for the title, and if victorious, he’ll break the record for the longest-reigning X-Division champion. Fans are curious to see if he can surpass the legacy set by Austin Aries.

As the anticipation builds, Aries acknowledged Slater’s potential to break his record, even suggesting that Slater might achieve this without ever having competed against him directly.

Mason Luke Makes a Bold Statement

In NXT, Mason Luke made a strong impression just weeks into his stint, declaring his intentions for the NXT Championship. In a match against Tavion Heights, he intervened after the champion’s victory, making a statement by attacking D’Angelo.

Luke, previously known as Will Claus, has a solid background in wrestling and is clearly aiming for the top right off the bat, drawing attention and support.

Upcoming AEW Double or Nothing Card

Looking ahead, AEW’s Double or Nothing on May 24 is shaping up nicely with several enticing matchups. While Allin still has to defend his title on “Dynamite,” his potential showdown with MJF is certainly highly anticipated.

  • Kazuchika Okada vs. Konosuke Takeshita for the AEW International Championship
  • Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler vs. Adam Copeland and Christian Cage in an I Quit match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship
  • Stadium Stampede Match featuring various well-known wrestlers
  • AEW Women’s Championship match
