Trump Supports Chinese Student Visas: 'It’s Positive' That Many Wish to Remain

Trump Defends Chinese Student Visas

On Thursday, President Donald Trump spoke on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” where he supported the presence of Chinese students in U.S. universities.

He remarked, “We’re talking about 500,000 students—really great students. If we were to say, ‘We don’t need students,’ that would be quite an insult to our country. They could easily go back and establish universities in China. Plus, if we don’t offer opportunities for those students, like green cards, it impacts not just them but also students from other nations.”

Trump continued, “If you want to see universities struggle, just take away those 500,000 students. The top universities might fare okay, but the lesser-known institutions, the ones that are already struggling, they’re really going to suffer. Honestly, I believe it’s beneficial for international students to come here and experience our culture, and many of them wish to remain in the country. Some might not share my views, but I see myself as a conservative who values strong borders and low interest rates.”

Sean Hannity interjected, pointing out that some people worry about the intentions of these students. Trump acknowledged this concern, saying, “Absolutely, I share that worry. The relationship we have with these students is delicate. There are indeed 500,000 of them. Our university system excels, yet bringing in that many could spell disaster for less prestigious schools. It’s quite insulting to imply that we don’t want these students; it sends a negative message about our openness. That’s just not right.”
