Brutal Assault on Trump Supporter in San Diego
Authorities have revealed the shocking details surrounding a violent attack against a devoted Trump supporter in San Diego, California.
According to the Escondido police, they responded to an assault report on Buchanan Street around 2:15 p.m. on a Wednesday. An older man was discovered badly beaten outside his residence, which prominently displayed large American flags and pro-Trump slogans.
In a heartbreaking turn, the victim was identified by his wife, Maria Moreno, as 69-year-old Kelly Sheron. He was immediately taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Moreno expressed her despair, stating to the press that her husband appeared to have no “hope” for survival following the brutal encounter.
Witnesses reported that the assailant fled the scene but was later apprehended by the police.
The suspect, a 32-year-old named Thomas Caleb Butler, was arrested on charges of attempted murder. Interestingly, he reportedly lives in the same neighborhood as the victim.
Moreno suggested that her husband may have been targeted due to the pro-Trump signs displayed in their home. A distressing image of Sheron in the hospital accompanied this report, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
It seems that the couple’s home had drawn considerable negative attention, with people expressing outrage over its political message. Previously, Sheron had been mentioned in news articles regarding vandalism incidents directed at their property. One critic claimed that the residence violated local laws against campaigning near polling areas.
Tragically, a good Samaritan who tried to intervene during the assault also sustained injuries.
If convicted, Butler could face a life sentence. He is currently being held at the Vista Detention Center and is scheduled for a court appearance on Friday.
California Representative Darrell Issa, whose district includes Escondido, has called for a thorough and immediate investigation into the attack.
In an unsettling revelation, a social media post from 2025 previously showed a man outside the couple’s home holding an American flag while performing what some described as a “Roman salute.”
