Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner refers to John Fetterman as an 'asshole'

Democratic Senate Candidate Criticizes Fetterman at Maine Town Hall

PORTLAND, Maine — Graham Platner, a Democratic candidate for the Senate, didn’t hold back during a town hall on Sunday, launching a profane remark at Senator John Fetterman. This incident adds fuel to his ongoing dispute with the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, just days before the Maine Senate primary.

When asked about colleagues he would collaborate with in Washington, D.C., if he wins in November, Platner commented, “The Senate is a place where relationships are crucial. I don’t want to go there and just be ineffective.” He acknowledged the criticisms surrounding government operations but said, “You can’t just act like John Fetterman and be some sort of a jerk.”

Platner also noted, “He’s made some unkind remarks about me, so I’m entitled to respond.”

Recently, Fetterman, expressing his frustration, suggested that Platner might be sympathizing with extremist views and criticized him for his controversial past statements. He brought up Platner’s active account on an anonymous app called “Predator’s Paradise,” which has come under scrutiny amid allegations of infidelity.

Despite the heat, Platner seems to be leaning into the friction. He posted on social media about Fetterman’s fashion choices, implying that the senator misjudges why he’s unpopular. Platner stated, “It’s not about the suit, man. It’s because you’ve become a pawn of AIPAC and the Republican Party.”

Meanwhile, Platner has faced various controversies recently. Audience members didn’t prompt him to address his own history of questionable behavior, which includes allegations of abusive conduct and inappropriate comments to women while married.

During a recent rally, he presented himself as an advocate for addressing wealth inequality and criticized Congress for prioritizing the powerful over the voters. He emphasized, “We are entering a new phase in American politics that resembles the power struggles of the past.”

With the Democratic primary around the corner, Platner is projected to be a leading candidate, squaring off against Republican incumbent Susan Collins if he secures the nomination.
