Bronny James posts image of his heart surgery scar

Bronny James opened up about his personal experiences on Wednesday.

In recognition of CPR and Automated External Defibrillator Awareness Month, LeBron James’ son shared a video detailing the cardiac arrest he suffered during a practice session with the University of Southern California men’s basketball team back in 2023.

For the first time, he also unveiled an image of his heart surgery scar on his social media platforms.

Currently a guard for the Lakers alongside his father, Bronny stated in the video that he was “in the best shape of my life” when the incident happened.

“I felt a little dizzy. I felt a little nauseous,” he recounted. “Then I sat down for a bit, got up, and then I passed out. When I woke up, I was on the practice field, confused about what had just happened.”

He credited a coaching assistant who quickly grabbed an AED and performed CPR, which ultimately saved his life. “I’m alive today because the medical staff and coaches prepared me for the worst,” he expressed. “I’m really grateful for that.”

Following the incident, Bronny was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and underwent surgery to address the issue. The surgery went well, and he hasn’t experienced fear since. However, it did leave him with a noticeable six-inch scar in the center of his chest, which he revealed in his Instagram video.

In collaboration with the American Heart Association, Bronny wrapped up his message by encouraging his followers to learn and practice CPR, with the hope of saving more lives. “Learn. Practice. Get ready,” he urged in the video’s caption.
