Spurs Face Unfortunate Incident After Game 4 Loss
The San Antonio Spurs experienced a rough moment following their significant defeat in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. As they were heading back to their hotel, NBA star Victor Wembanyama was struck by an egg, reportedly thrown by a Knicks fan who was taunting him.
Social media has been buzzing with videos showing the egg being aimed at Wembanyama while he was escorted by security into a hotel in New York City. This incident comes amid a series of publicized altercations involving Knicks supporters recently.
Following the Spurs’ Game 3 win, there were reports of Knicks fans confronting Spurs fans, with videos showing some Spurs supporters allegedly having their jerseys torn during the chaos. Wembanyama expressed his disapproval of such behavior.
“Of course my thoughts are, remember, this is just a game,” he emphasized. “I’m passionate about it, but there should be mutual respect. That’s just not acceptable.”
Wembanyama’s sentiments were echoed by ESPN host Mike Greenberg, who criticized the actions of the fans after Game 4. He expressed disappointment that such behavior was tolerated, stating, “If you throw eggs at Victor Wembanyama… you disgrace not just yourself but also everyone who knows you.”
Greenberg further reflected on the worrying trend of unsportsmanlike behavior, suggesting that some things simply shouldn’t go unsaid anymore. “You are a disgrace, and everyone around you who knows you,” he reiterated.
On another note, celebrations among Knicks fans have also turned violent at times. After the Spurs’ victory in Game 3, fracas erupted at a viewing party in Bryant Park, resulting in 21 arrests. Charges varied from disorderly conduct to assaulting police officers.
This year marks the Knicks’ return to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999, though they haven’t clinched a championship since 1973. The upcoming Game 5 is set to take place in San Antonio on Saturday, with a potential Game 6 returning to New York on Tuesday.
