Taylor Hicks shares that his faith keeps him grounded two decades after winning 'American Idol'

Taylor Hicks Reflects on His Journey Post-‘American Idol’

NASHVILLE – Since winning “American Idol” in 2006, Taylor Hicks has become a well-loved entertainer. The musician, who hails from Birmingham, Alabama, has made a name for himself with sold-out performances, a successful residency in Las Vegas, and appearances on Broadway and television. He credits his down-to-earth nature to his blue-collar upbringing and strong faith.

In a recent interview, the 49-year-old discussed how his roots have supported him through the challenges of fame. He shared that those in Birmingham have played a vital role in his life. “It’s a blue-collar town,” Hicks said. “I think it reflects on the hard work of the people there, and my family. I have a really dedicated group of folks back home that I still connect with.”

“My faith is what truly brings me happiness,” he added. “It’s wonderful to be in a business I love so much. I’ve been in showbiz for about 20 years, and honestly, I feel blessed.”

Despite his success, Hicks recalls a time before fame that was filled with small gigs in local bars. When he auditioned for “American Idol” at 29, he had no clue about the rollercoaster ride ahead. “Winning was just the beginning,” he mentioned in another chat with a publication. “I’ve spent over two decades in show business, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

He reflected on the impact of “American Idol,” stating, “It was a significant platform for me. The dream I had of becoming an entertainer came true on that show.” Even now, he misses being part of the show and interacting with everyone involved.

Looking back, Hicks recognizes how different the competition landscape is today compared to when he participated. “Back then, ‘American Idol’ was the only notable talent show,” he explained. “There are countless options now, and it’s more challenging for contestants as they’re up against various forms of entertainment.”

Regardless of the ups and downs, Hicks expresses immense gratitude for everything his journey has brought him. “When I won ‘American Idol,’ I reminded myself to savor the moment. Because eventually, in this business, things will cool down, and you must be ready for what’s next.”
