National Guardsman admits to murdering soldier discovered in former partner's bed

Former Guardsman Pleads Guilty to Murder

A former National Guardsman from the U.S. has admitted to killing an Army soldier after discovering him in bed with his ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child.

Natravian R. Landry, 27, entered a guilty plea on June 11 for second-degree murder and for using a firearm during a violent crime. The victim was U.S. Army Sgt. Andre S. Stewart Jr., shot at Fort Eisenhower, now known as Fort Gordon, situated in Augusta, Georgia. Federal prosecutors indicated that Landry could face a prison sentence ranging from a minimum of 10 years to life.

The incident took place on December 14, 2024, at an apartment complex located on the military installation. According to an arrest affidavit, Landry was on a training mission that morning when he took a break and decided to visit the woman.

Witnesses reported that Landry noticed a black truck in front of the apartment and wondered who it belonged to. Suspecting another man was inside, he forced his way into the apartment and went upstairs, where he found Stewart, who was reportedly involved with the woman at that time.

The woman recounted that they were sleeping when the noise began. Two children were also in the apartment during the incident. Knowing Stewart was unarmed, Landry shot him once in the chest. Unfortunately, Stewart did not survive.

After the shooting, Landry fled the scene and the military base but was apprehended later during a traffic stop by the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office on Interstate 85. He discarded the handgun from the vehicle, but it was later recovered by authorities, matching the weapon used in the shooting. During a subsequent interview, Landry confessed to the act.

Eyewitness accounts suggested that Landry had been feeling jealous towards Stewart. Stewart’s sister expressed deep sorrow over the situation, stating that her brother was “horribly murdered,” leaving behind a five-year-old son who was present during the tragic event.

A specific date for Landry’s sentencing has not been determined yet.
