UN Report Sparks Outrage in Israel Over Allegations Against Its Military Actions

Israel has reacted strongly to a recent report from the United Nations Commission of Inquiry, which claims that the country has “deliberately targeted Palestinian children.” This assertion has sparked accusations of anti-Semitism and incitement to violence, echoing sentiments from earlier reports by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry regarding the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

The report, released on Wednesday, stated, “Based on the evidence examined and consistent with previous reports, the commission finds on reasonable grounds that Israeli authorities and Israeli security forces continue to commit genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Gaza Strip, and war crimes in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.” This has raised alarm, especially given the current tensions in the region.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, voiced his discontent, calling the report a “political bloody libel disguised as a UN document.” He argued that the commission had drawn conclusions without adequately investigating the facts. He emphasized that instead of focusing on Hamas’ crimes, the report unfairly targets Israel. “Israel will continue to protect its people and fight terrorism, no matter how many false reports are published,” he added.

There was no immediate comment from the Commission of Inquiry or the Human Rights Council regarding the report’s controversial claims.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ office was vague about his reaction, stating, “His report is not something to comment on.”

At a press conference, Chairman Srinivasan Muralidhar insisted that evidence indicates Palestinian children were “deliberately targeted.” He claimed that even after the October 2025 ceasefire, Israel has disregarded international laws aimed at protecting children, leading to ongoing casualties among them.

Anne Baevsky, president of Human Rights Voices, criticized the COI’s investigation as lacking fairness and impartiality. “Their process seems pre-designed to ignore key data and perspectives,” she noted, highlighting the omission of tragic cases like the deaths of young children in Israel. She also pointed out that the traumatic impact of the ongoing conflict on Israeli children is often overlooked.

Baevsky further alleged that COI members deliberately withheld pertinent details about the report when addressing the Human Rights Council, suggesting a lack of accountability. Another committee member expressed that all international legal norms were violated, and there should be consequences for such actions against Palestinian children.

Jonathan Conricus from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies criticized the report for lacking substantive evidence and for being riddled with methodological flaws. He described it as a significant attempt by international bodies to undermine Israel’s legitimacy.

Salo Eisenberg, of Honest Reporting, remarked that the report operates under the notion of a hypothetical battlefield, disregarding the complexities involved, particularly the activities of Hamas and its implications on civilian safety. He echoed the sentiment that the report fails to establish intent behind the claims made against Israel.
