As part of a special feature for America’s 250th anniversary, a section titled America’s Tribute showcases original videos from various MPs and government officials. The central theme revolves around a shared love for the country.
Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso from Wyoming recently expressed his admiration for the military, attributing America’s freedoms to their sacrifices. In a video message ahead of the anniversary of Breitbart’s American Tribute Project, he reflected on the nation’s lasting strength and resilience.
“Two and a half centuries ago, our founders signed the Declaration of Independence, setting us on a course defined by freedom, opportunity, and the principle of equality,” Barrasso noted. He emphasized that America has grown stronger and more prosperous since then. “This year, we will continue to advocate for these vital principles in our communities,” he added.
He shared a bit of personal history: “Coming from a family dedicated to serving the country—my father, a World War II veteran at the Battle of the Bulge, and my stepfather, who was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in both World War II and Korea—I’m reminded that our military’s dedication ensures our safety and liberty.”
“As a kid, my dad would often remind me, ‘John, be grateful every day to be living in America. You don’t fully appreciate your luck,’” he reminisced.
Barrasso expressed feeling “very blessed” to serve in the Senate, viewing it as an opportunity to give back to the nation. “Every time I walk into the Capitol, I’m overcome with gratitude for what the Founding Fathers achieved. Even during the Civil War, President Lincoln ensured construction of the Capitol continued, showcasing America’s resilience and forward momentum,” he explained.
Looking toward the future, he said, “As we mark this significant milestone, we should also focus on what lies ahead. The next 250 years will rely on upholding the values of service, hard work, and determination that founded this nation. I remain hopeful that America’s greatest days are yet to come, and I’m excited to play a role in shaping a more prosperous future for everyone.”
